Frequently Asked
Documentary photography centers the day as it actually happens — not as it’s posed for the camera. We watch for real emotion, real movement, the small in-between moments. We won’t choreograph or interrupt unless you ask us to.
Yes. Documentary doesn’t mean we never raise the camera for a portrait — it means we don’t build the day around them. We schedule a short golden-hour window for couple portraits and family formals, and otherwise stay observant.
Most couples do at first. Katie’s background in therapy shaped how she puts people at ease. The longer we’re around, the less you’ll notice us — and the moment you stop performing is the photograph we want.
We work with the light that’s there. Outdoor, indoor, golden hour, low-light reception — we shoot to preserve atmosphere rather than flood it. When flash is needed, it’s used sparingly and intentionally.
That’s exactly how we work — documentary with an editorial eye. The day is captured honestly, and the portraits we make alongside it borrow the same light, atmosphere, and presence. You don’t have to perform for us; you just have to be there.
